Hi. I wanted to start a conversation on here about the series of books that are the idiot's and dummy guides to (name whatever topic that you want to know about.) I know these started years ago with "The Dummies Guide to Microsoft Windows" and since then hundreds of topics have been made into either a dummies or idiot's guide. I was wondering what this group thought of them. I have several of the idiots guides from knowing Irish culture to improving your IQ and also singing and even idiots guides to religious matters such as the Bible and different world religions. Every time I go to the bookstore these days I'm looking to see what idiots or dummies guides they have available just to add to my ever growing selection of them. Does anyone else have any opinions of them? Frankly I've found them to be great reference material and that's what they should be used for, reference material. What does anyone else think?

I tried to use one dummies guide to something or other (a computer program -- I think) and immediately became frustrated and threw the book across the room. I have never been willing to try any of them again.
